Back in early 2025, we highlighted the looming expiration of SAP’s Compatibility Pack (CP) usage rights, the temporary bridge allowing legacy ERP functionality to run within SAP S/4HANA.

With less than three months to go, it’s time for a quick refresher on what’s changing and what actions you must take before the deadline.

Key dates

What are the implications?

The expiration of Compatibility Pack usage rights will have both technical and commercial consequences. Organizations that continue to rely on CP functionality risk non-compliance, loss of support, and disruption to critical business processes.

  • Continuing to run CP transactions after expiration may violate license compliance terms.
  • SAP will withdraw support and updates for Compatibility Pack components, making any CP-based functionality unusable.
  • CP-dependent processes, interfaces, or custom-built extensions will become obsolete in the S/4HANA environment.

Note: It is likely that customers will only be able to read data from Compatibility Scope applications after the expiration of usage rights.

How to uncover your own Compatibility Pack usage

Identifying where Compatibility Pack functionality still exists in your system landscape is the first step toward ensuring compliance and a smooth transition. Several SAP tools can help pinpoint legacy processes, custom code, and configurations that depend on CPs.

Each tool below helps uncover legacy functionality and custom code that still relies on CPs. If you haven’t already, run these key assessments:

  • SAP Readiness Check (via SAP for Me): Identifies active CP-related functionality and transactions.
  • Simplification Item Check: Flags deprecated tables and configurations tied to CP functionality.
  • Custom Code Migration Worklist: Identifies where custom ABAP developments depend on CP functionality that will no longer exist or be supported in SAP S/4HANA.
  • SAP EarlyWatch Alert (EWA): Now includes a CP usage detection module.

Required Action – see full checklist guide here

With the deadline fast approaching, it’s essential to take immediate steps to identify, plan and execute your Compatibility Pack exit strategy. The following actions will help ensure compliance and maintain business continuity as you transition fully to S/4HANA.

  • Confirm which CPs you’re using and check expiration in SAP Note 2269324 (Compatibility Scope Matrix).
  • Map each CP to its native S/4HANA successor or a supported third-party alternative.
  • Most CP functionality now has a native S/4HANA equivalent, reducing dependency on CPs.
  • Include CP remediation in any in-progress or upcoming system conversions.
  • Avoid creating new processes based on CP functionality. Focus on S/4HANA-native design.
